Scribo for Mac

Look up anything, anywhere.

Select a word in any app and press ⌘C twice. Scribo shows what it means right beside your cursor, and remembers where you read it.

Download the beta for Mac

Version 0.1 beta, 15.4 MB, for macOS 15.4 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon

Made for reading on a screen.

  • In every app

Browsers, PDFs, ebooks, notes and chat. If you can select it, you can look it up.

  • Translated on your Mac

Translations come from Apple's on-device translation, so they're instant, free, and never sent anywhere.

  • It remembers what you looked up

Look a word up again and Scribo tells you how many times you've met it. The ones you keep coming back to are the ones worth saving.

  • Where you read it

The app, the window, and the page or file you were in are kept with the word, automatically.

  • Ask while you read

Have it explained simply, see why it's used here, or try it in a sentence of your own.

  • One library with your iPhone

Save it and a meaning and an example are filled in. Sign in on both, and it comes back in practice on your iPhone.

One permission

Scribo needs Accessibility to notice ⌘C and read the selection and the window's title. It only looks when you press the shortcut, and nothing leaves your Mac until you save or ask.

Getting started

  1. Open the download and drag Scribo into your Applications folder.
  2. Open Scribo and allow Accessibility in System Settings. Scribo moves on by itself once it's allowed.
  3. Select a word anywhere and press ⌘C twice.
