Reading
What can I bring into Scribo?
A link to an article or a blog post, one YouTube video, a PDF, EPUB or TXT file, or text you paste. Scribo rewrites it at your level and splits it into sections you can finish in about five minutes. A whole book comes in parts, and the next part is made when you finish the one before.
How does Scribo know my level?
From how you learn: how long you stay on a section, how often you stop to look something up, whether you finish, and the level of the answers you write or say. Until there is enough to go on, your level shows as not measured yet, and your first readings are written at B1.
Can I choose my level?
No. A level you pick can't be explained by anything you did, so Scribo shows only the levels it measured. If a reading felt too easy or too hard, say so at the end of it, and your next reading is written a step easier or harder.
Which languages can I learn?
Scribo follows the language you set under I'm learning in Settings, and measures your level separately for each language. Switching to another language is part of Scribo Pro. English is the most complete. Your vocabulary level is measured for English only, for now.
Words and practice
How does practice work?
A day's practice takes about three minutes. Words you save come back on a schedule that adapts to how well you remember each one, mixed with a sentence to put together, a line to hear, and a question to answer out loud or in writing. Practice is always free, whatever your plan.
A word's meaning is wrong. What can I do?
Meanings and examples are written by AI, and sometimes they miss. Open the word to add a meaning of your own or fix its spelling, or delete it and save it again. Deleting a word gives its place back under the free limit.
Pro and your account
What's free, and what does Pro add?
Free includes one new reading a day (three on your first day), 50 saved words and then 10 new ones a day, and daily practice. Readings you've already brought in open as often as you like, and your library follows you to every device you sign in on. Pro removes the daily limits, opens your full learning insights, and lets you switch the language you're learning. The yearly plan starts with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.
How do I cancel Pro?
It depends on where you bought it. On iPhone or iPad it's an App Store subscription, so Apple manages it: in Scribo, open Settings and tap Manage subscription, or open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions. If you bought it on the Mac, open Settings in Scribo for Mac and click Manage subscription, or use the link in your receipt email. Deleting the app or your account doesn't cancel it.
Can I get a refund?
If you bought Pro on iPhone or iPad, ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If you bought it on the Mac, payments already made aren't refunded, but you can cancel any time and keep Pro until the period you paid for ends. If your local law gives you a right to a refund, or you were charged twice or by mistake, write to us and we'll take care of it.
I have a new phone. How do I get Pro back?
Sign in with the same Apple account you used before. If Pro doesn't show up, open Settings and tap Restore purchases.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings and tap Delete account. Your account and the library kept with it on our server are deleted, and the copy on this device is erased. This can't be undone, and it doesn't cancel a subscription.
Privacy
Does Scribo keep what I read?
Your readings stay on your device, and while you're signed in they're also kept in your account, so they come back on a new device. The server that makes a reading doesn't store the text you send or the reading it makes. It only passes through. The details are in the privacy policy.
Is my voice recorded?
No. When you answer out loud, your device turns your voice into text and only that text is sent. The recording is never saved or sent. If your device can't recognize a language on the device itself, the microphone doesn't appear.
Mac
Is there a Mac version?
Yes, in beta. Select a word in any app, press ⌘C twice, and it shows what it means. Download it from the Mac page.
